LAUREN COLLIN
Lauren Collin creates bas-relief using her own unique technique of cutting into the surface of paper with a scalpel. The edges cut into the pure white paper rise up like petals, creating delicate shadows, and depending on the angle of the light, organic motifs with movement emerge. The repeated cutting creates drawing-like lines, rhythm, and the paper becomes sculpture, creating a new space between light and shadow. After graduating from the prestigious Parisian design school ESAG Penninghen, she worked as an interior architect at Gilles & Boissier. Lauren’s work reflects the precise and structured sensibility she acquired in the fields of design and architecture.
Her work was first exhibited at the AD Intérieurs exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in September 2014. Her delicate and striking technique quickly attracted attention, and in March 2016 she had her first solo exhibition at Galerie Dutko in Paris, followed by another at Christian Liaigre’s showroom in New York in November. In 2017, Culture in Architecture, the company responsible for the restoration of the five-star Hôtel de Crillon in Paris, commissioned 17 pieces for the guest rooms and suites. She has also received numerous other prestigious commissions, including a large piece over 2 meters for Christian Liaigre. In recognition of her achievements, she was named as a finalist in the outstanding talent category of the Prix Liliane Bettencourt, a competition dedicated to the cleverness of hands that rewards know-how, creativity and innovation in the field of craft.
